2019 Conference Highlights

Iraq's only Event Exploring Project Opportunities in the Liberated Areas


 

The inaugural Kirkuk & Mosul Megaprojects Conference took place on 29 June, in London, and was co-located with the 13th Iraq Petroleum. The event was a huge success, delivering the highest quality expertise, advice and insights to our Delegates.

The Conference is a new international gathering of the key players to shape the strategy and partnerships to support the rebuilding of the energy infrastructure and to launch the energy megaprojects for Kirkuk, Mosul and the Liberated Areas.

The region proved over the years to have extreme resilience, the Conference set a timeframe for the energy mega projects  to turn this area into one of the world’s main centres for reconstruction and oil production and an area for economic stability that could bring the population of the entire region together.

 

2019 Highlights & Takeaways


 

  • The Conference programme highlighted energy projects for investment in; oil, gas, electricity as well as renewables, the agenda touched upon the role of corporates in the support of the liberated areas as well as corporate social responsibility and tapped into the evolving role of the multi-national companies operating in the region supporting the rebuilding of the area.

 

  • The Conference welcomed guests from Iraq: Iraq’s Presidency, Iraqi Parliament, Iraq’s Ministry of Oil, Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity, H.E. Dr Adil Abdulmahdi office, Governors of: Kirkuk, Mosul and Saleddin, Kurdistan Regional Parliament MPs, Kurdistan Ministry of Electricity, Kurdistan High Representation to the United Kingdom, the  deputy head of the Reconstruction Fund for Areas Affected by Terroristic Operations (REFAATO), Ministry of Construction, as well as the Environment Ministry Deputy Minister.

 

  • The Conference was supported by our tremendous Sponsors: Crescent Petroleum, Al Burhan Group, Mercantile and Maritime, Garda World, RSK & Hydro C RPSG

 

  • The Conference was chaired by: Ambassador Ramon Blecua, Ambassador / Head of Delegation, Delegation of the European Union to Iraq who outlined the role of the EU in the liberated areas, highlighting that Mosul is the breadbasket of Iraq

 

  • The Conference opened with a Ministerial keynote session about the global vision from the donor countries and Iraq’s strategies for the humanitarian aid supporting the rebuilding of the liberated areas, led by: E. Thamir Ghadhban, Deputy Prime Minister for Energy & Minister of Oil, Federal Government of Iraq. His Excellency said in his opening remarks:

We as a federal Government represented by the most senior level want to show our solidarity with the liberated areas

 

 

  • Dr Dara Reshid, Deputy Minister, Deputy Head of Reconstruction Fund for Areas Affected by Terroristic Operations (REFAATO), Ministry of Construction, Housing & General Municipalities, Federal Government of Iraq outlined the reconstruction projects and the available funds for the re building of the areas.

 

  • E. Mansour Mareed Attia, Governor of Mosul, Federal Government of Iraq, highlighted the need for

 

projects and investors to come to rebuild Mosul – the rebuilding of Mosul means bringing peace to Iraq and to the world

 

  • E. Dr Amar Jabr Khaleel, Governor of Salaheddin, Federal Government of Iraq identified the projects for international investment for energy in the province

 

  • E. Kameran Ali Hassan, Head of Iraq’s Demining, Deputy Minister of Environment, Ministry of Environment, Federal Government of Iraq outlines the demining projects for the liberated areas

 

  • Farid Jadir Sadik Aljadir, Director General, North Oil Company/ Ministry of Oil, Federal Government of Iraq addressed meeting the challenges of the Liberated Areas and the plan of action and the common approach to major issues saying:

We are pleased to help the IOCs and service companies achieve their goals supporting the industry

 

  • The Conference welcomed Richard Wadsworth, Head of Operations, SONANGOL P&P IRAQ the only operators in Mosul who showed great support for the area and outlined the projects that are currently underway

 

  • The Conference examined the private funds, the governments funds and the projects on build-operate-transfer basis, gas pipeline, pumping stations, crude storage facilities and other necessary infrastructure projects.

 

  • The Conference concluded with full announcements of all the projects for investments at the liberated areas, followed by 1:1 meetings with the Liberated Areas Delegation
